Earth: Show Preview

The aging, instrumental-wielding overlords in Earth have much in common with their namesake. Despite using its 1993 debut, Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version, to create sheets of cranking, plodding feedback (and laying much of the blueprint for drone and doom metal in the process), there's always been a real earthy, organic quality to the Seattle band's music. Its most distorted guitars somehow feel like natural extensions of Dylan Carlson and company's complex thoughts. The recent Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light, Vol. I was more concerned with underfed folk than rock or metal, but even then, Earth demonstrated its knack for making minimalism feel mighty.
