DJ Bus Station John: Show Preview

"It's no secret anymore! I've always been a little black girl trapped in the body of a big white bear — and now I'm letting her out!" says local disco DJ Bus Station John. Perhaps best known for his seamy, disco-driven Tubesteak Connection bathhouse revival parties, the past year has seen him move in a new, albeit related direction with the party Love Will Fix It. Designed to show off an extensive collection of late '70s and early '80s R&B (think Chaka Khan and Shalamar), it's an intimate affair with soulful music, enthusiastic dancers, and — perhaps most importantly — no cell phones. As the man says, "Come loosen yer caboose, shake yer rump to the funk, and let love fix it!"

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
