Barcelona's cutting-edge, 18-year-old Sónar music festival spans multiple days, venues, and styles of electronic music. The traveling version, which comes to eight North American cities this year, furthers the goal of presenting a strong alternative to the teenage EDM parties that are currently grabbing headlines. South Africa's Die Antwoord borrows and hocks a loogie on rap and rave clichés and conventions, making it an apt choice to headline. Detroit-reared minimalist Seth Troxler and Toronto techno-soul quartet Azari & III help to slam home the point that it's not all about dubstep.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
