Daedelus: Show Preview

Wednesday, Oct 13 2010

Southern California's vibrant electronic music scene is practically bursting with the ever-growing number of young producers creating instrumental hip-hop. Within the giant sprawl of Los Angeles and its satellite cities exists a mass of producers who make up what is lovingly called the L.A. beat scene. This Friday, scene stalwart and Magical Properties labelhead Daedelus is bringing some like-minded buddies upstate for a night of nodworthy rhythms and eye-rattling bass à la Flying Lotus. Expect 103 Harriet to be brimming with a heavy dose of herky-jerky, Dilla-esque party jams sprinkled with bit of Daedelus' and Teebs' twinkling melodies, and the visceral live attitude of the Gaslamp Killer and 12th Planet.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
