Cut Copy

Wednesday, Apr 23 2008

Australia's Cut Copy is an ecstatic burst of energy. That inertia propels a dreamily vibrant sound — chewy bass lines, teetering percussion, squeaky synths that gasp and hiccup — befitting of the title In Ghost Colours, the trio's second album, which was produced with DFA's Tim Goldsworthy. The disc is surprisingly poppy and happily '80s, with soft-boy singing and earnest lyrics topping off the thumping love-fest. Cut Copy performs with Simian Mobile Disco, Black Kids, and The Beat Electric DJs on Saturday, April 26, at Mezzanine at 10 p.m. Tickets have sold out; call 625-8880 or visit

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
