Crown of Thorns

Wednesday, Jan 28 2009

Brooklyn's Thorns of Life is the stuff of punk fantasy. Frontman Blake Schwarzenbach rose to icon status via the raw sincerity of San Francisco's Jawbreaker and New York's Jets to Brazil. After Jets' demise in 2003, he opted to pursue academia over music. Until now. With Thorns, he's accompanied by Aaron Cometbus of the long-running Cometbus zine and member of East Bay legends Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder. The trio is rounded out by Daniela Sea, who plays Moira Sweeney on The L Word, but came up through the punk ranks as the guitarist for Cypher in the Snow and the Gr'ups. The buzz on Thorns of Life is deafening, even if its musical output is so far limited to YouTube videos of Brooklyn house parties.
