There's a time for sharpening your focus on the world, thinking critically about goals, and being a productive member of society. For all other times, there are drugs and psychedelic music, and local outfit Sleepy Sun delivers the latter in spades, providing the other-plane soundtrack to your dalliances with the former. Fresh from a tour opening for Arctic Monkeys — remember them? — Sleepy Sun promises a night full of soaring guitars, tribal flourishes, and an overall sense that these musicians just weren't made for these times. But it's more than just style that this Santa Cruz–born outfit is peddling. Bret Constantino and Rachel Williams' harmonies are spot-on, the group is equally adept with acoustics and electrics, and there's both toughness and elegance to the musicianship on last year's Embrace and the forthcoming Fever.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
