Color Swirl

Wednesday, Oct 12 2011
Imagine it: You see a provocative performance, and it leaves you with questions – maybe even uncomfortably strong opinions you didn't even know you held. By the end of it, you're roiling, and thirsty. At Red, black & GREEN: a blues (rbGb), mastermind Marc Bamuthi Joseph puts together a big wild dance/poetry/set-as-sculpture performance art piece about environmentalism in communities of color. His squad is a high-talent, fast-moving smart set sure to leave you with wide eyes as well as a squeezed brain -- choreographer Staci Printz and musician Tommy Shepherd, especially, are known to us as amazing. Back to your roil and your thirst: The third act of the show involves you talking, sitting, and drinking with the performers. Is this how people get entertained and smarter at the same time? In any case, wow.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 13. Continues through Oct. 22, 2011

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
