Club preview: Carte Blanche

Wednesday, Jun 30 2010

Brought together by fate, the Eurostar, and a mutual love of the kickdrum's irresistible pulse, DJ Mehdi and Riton are Carte Blanche, a collaboration in celebration of unadulterated, Chicago-style house music, but with a Continental savoir faire. Capturing the pressurized cadence of shooting through the Chunnel (yeah, it can be a euphemism), the five tracks on Carte Blanche's debut EP, Black Billionaires, jack with a bass-borne, sample-studded libido. Mehdi, part of the Parisian Ed Banger camp, brings a filtered swing to the project, and Riton, a Brit, injects a gritty resonance. Marked by a mischievous flush, the EP includes a cameo by Kid Sister.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
