Since he hit the scene five years ago, Philly-based tastemaker Diplo has been instrumental in the rise of two of this decade's defining club trends: baile funk (a Brazilian reinterpretation of '80s New York electro) and the fusion of contemporary hip-hop hits and vintage British pop (which defined Diplo's Hollertronix DJ parties). Between these sojourns, he also helped cement the street cred of M.I.A. and Santogold on a pair of legendary mixtapes.
