Burgers Across America

In a special Village Voice Media collaborative project for Memorial Day Weekend, we're taking a look at some of the most epic, juicy burgers in this gallery of coast-to-coast burger porn. So, from Village Voice Media's thirteen papers, from OC Weekly to the Miami New Times, we present: burgers across America.

Where: BBQ Smash Burger, Uneeda Burger
Seattle's Uneeda Burger is located in the old Uneeda Auto Repair shop and offers up a variety of burgers crafted of all-natural Painted Hills Beef - or for the more discerning palate, Whidbey Island Crescent Harbor 100% Wagyu (Kobe) grass-fed beef. This one here's the BBQ Smash, a delicious concoction of charred onions, bacon, cheddar and bbq sauce.Read more on Seattle Weekly: Do You Uneeda Burger

Where: The Hole in the Wall
Los Angeles patty-lovers crowd the Hole In The Wall Burger Joint at lunchtime. They come for the perfect burgers, the freshly cooked fries and, most of all, the pretzel buns. Read more in LA Weekly's 30 Days of Burgers

Where: The Cardiac Burger, The Bucket
The Bucket in Los Angeles is probably most (in)famous for its Cardiac Burger. A heap of greasy onions and mushrooms piled atop bacon, grilled ham and two massive 1/2-pound beef patties. Read more on the LA Weekly: 30 Days of Burgers

Where: Maverick

The Juicy Lucy, served up at Maverick in San Francisco's Mission District, comes served with a slice of smoked gouda in the middle of the patty. This ain't no orange-cheese-injected hot dog, this is quality. Maverick's chef de cuisine, Matt Brimer, topped himself by topping the Lucy with a slow-cooked egg yolk, sauce gribriche, and watercress. Read more on Maverick's massive burger at SF Weekly.

Where: The Soul Burger, The Memphis Cafe

The Soul Burger, $9.50 with fries or salad: I don't know how much "soul" the Soul Burger has, but the combination of pepper jack cheese and chipotle sauce makes this burger. Don't get me wrong, the meat on this hearty burger is tasty, but the bit of spice makes this a definite must-try. Memphis is a mellow OC gem that most people know for music and happy hour, but it has a solid menu, top to bottom. The burger was a recommendation from a friend--and well-worth the price. Where: The 50/50, Slaters 5050

The 50/50, $9.95: If you like burgers, chances are you also like bacon. Bacon on burgers is most always a welcomed addition. What about bacon combined with the beef, making for a flavor-filled patty? Yeah, absolutely worth kicking that vegetarian phase you've pursued while trying to impress some man or woman. Just don't make it a regular part of the diet because cholesterol numbers aren't supposed to match the distance you drive a golf ball.

Where: The Lodge

What's better than a burger? Try a burger sandwiched between two grilled cheese...sandwiches! The Lodge in Scottsdale, Arizona has such a burger and they called it The Sasquatch. Eat this burger and you won't get a free T-shirt or your picture on some sort of wall of fame. No, you'll get the satisfaction that you are a man; a man who is very, very full. Where: Park Burger

The menu at Park Burger is rife with heart-stoppingly good combinations, most of which are sure to send your cholesterol right through the roof. And while we're grateful when a companion snags bites of the ham-Swiss-and-egg laden Croque burger or the Chilango, topped with jalapeos, guac and cheddar, we have a hard time sharing the Royal with anyone, no matter how nicely we're asked. For the Royal, the burger is topped with caramelized onions, blue cheese and bacon; we add an egg for good measure. More Mile High burger action: Read more: Denver Westword's Five Best Burgers

Where: The Stodg Burger at the Porch

We're in love. Freshly buttered bun, aged cheddar, a fried egg and bacon. In many ways, it's a perfect comfort food, and in other ways a heart-attack. The Porch in Dallas, TX has mastered the art of burger porn. Pair it with their fries--which have that glorious fresh potatoe-y flavor, and you've got about four great meals. Oh--the bun is buttered with foie gras.Read more in Dallas Observer's Best Excuse for a Heart Attack

Where: Maple & Motor

This isn't a burger with foie gras, or special mayonnaise. It's a simple, fresh, grill-seared burger with a tower of lettuce, tomato and onion. The right amount of everything. Last we checked, the Maple & Motor burger was a six-napkin operation, with relish, ketchup and mustard and real cheddar. A true cheeseburger. Where: 5 Napkin Burgers

Absolutely everything about this burger from 5 Napkin Burgers-- patty, bun, vegetal accessories, condiments -- works in perfect harmony. The bun: sturdy but pliant multigrain. Tomatoes, lettuce, bread and butter pickles: generous, fresh. Patty: Conjured from black beans, barley, brown rice, carrots, beets, jalapeos, and sesame seeds, it's crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside, and flavorful and satisfying as hell. 5Napkin sauce: like a hybrid of Russian dressing and tartar sauce, and thus delicious. Meat eaters, your loss is our considerable gain. Read more on the Village Voice's Top 10 Best Veggie Burgers in NYC here

Where: Blue Door Pub
Doesn't look too appetizing, does it? Well, wait till we tell you its secret ingredient and you'll think it's even worse: peanut butter. The improbable combination works in the same way Asian cuisine pairs beef with peanut sauce: nutty meets meaty, plus smoky bacon and pepper jack cheese means a rich, savory indulgence like no other among the Twin Cities burger scene. Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
