Breakaway: Show Preview

Wednesday, Sep 26 2012

Usually the focus of a music video is the musicians — it's for their promotion and expression, after all, that music videos are made in the first place. But as anyone who spent too many hours watching old-school MTV knows, the music video is an art form. The Breakaway series at Artists' Television Access aims to give music videos the respect they deserve, with public showings on a big screen. This week's edition focuses on the works of Bay Area directors for local bands: Go for screenings of Owen Cook's videos for Nobunny, Grass Widow, and Hobocop, and Hannah Lew's clips for Shannon and the Clams, Hunx, and Grass Widow, among others. Or just go to watch music videos on a screen larger than your laptop.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
