Blockhead: Show Preview

New Yorker Tony Simon calls himself Blockhead because he thinks his dome has that shape. He's an accomplished producer for rappers such as Aesop Rock and MURS, but has leaned toward instrumental music on his five solo albums. The occasional vocal lines or textures largely come from obscure samples, a creative cut-and-paste style that owes a debt to UK act Coldcut, whose Matt Black and Jonathan More signed Blockhead to their now-legendary Ninja Tune label. Blockhead leads a showcase of performances from up-and-coming Ninja Tune artists.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
