Black, White, and Art Cred All Over

Wednesday, Sep 17 2008
Adrián Arias is a poet, artist, and provocateur, which makes him the perfect host for "Illusion 7." At this annual art happening, guests dress in black, artists dress in white, and the walls and floors are wrapped in blank white paper. Over the course of four hours, artists perform, sculpt, stilt-walk, paint, screenprint, run around nude, give light shows, play music, and generally transform the space from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey to the inside of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s head. Almost 80 artists will be participating, including Rene Yañez (creator of the “Pasión por Frida” event at SFMOMA), dancer Nadja Haas, and muralist Mona Caron. If you’re an "Illusion" virgin, this is your last chance to, as Arias says, “discover self among others and to create in a shared space,” because the event will fade back into dreamland after this lucky number seven.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
