The following night, Saturday, July 16, Ruby Skye hosts another great dance music duo, Deep Dish . Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi are Persian expatriates living in America (specifically, D.C.) but are truly citizens of the world. They're among the most internationally recognized names in the genre, standing alongside other names such as the Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk. Busy remixers and DJs who frequently release mix CDs, they've just put out their new album, George Is On, their first set of original music in seven years. As seems to be the fashion these days, their '70s and '80s rock influences are worn heavily on George's sleeves -- the collection is topped out by a fierce remix of Stevie Nicks' "Dreams," for which the Gold Dust Woman herself recorded beautiful new vocals. DJ Behrouz kicks off the evening, while RastaQ holds it down in the "Jungle Room" with hip hop and downtempo sounds. For those interested, a special $40 weekend pass is available for both Ruby Skye shows; call 693-0777 or visit www.rubyskye.com for more info.
