Bay Area Now 7 Performance Festival: In Search of Sound & Light

When: Fri., Aug. 8, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $25
ZOFO, a two-headed, four-armed, 20-fingered orchestra that performs on one piano, might exemplify the highest ambition and driving force behind the seventh “Bay Area Now” triennial, which has stepped into new territory by inviting over 15 organizations to act as curators for the festival. For visual art lovers, wrestling these viewpoints into one cohesive show might be like doing battle with the hundred-handed Hekatonkheires but, for performance arts lovers, this is bliss. Program 2, “In Search of Sound and Light” collects several of the Bay Area’s best into a single night: In addition to the enthralling piano work of Grammy-nominated ZOFO, you will be treated to sfSound, a contemporary music ensemble that creates mind bending sleights of sound which are almost impossible to capture on a recording; RAWdance, a trio whose movements are, tonight, inspired by the shifting realities of Rorschach tests and film noir; and Antique Naked Soul, a socially-conscious a cappella beatboxing soul band. Be sure to arrive early for preshow comedy, dance, and jazz in the lobby.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
