Atmosphere: Show Preview

Minneapolis's Atmosphere — once just a DJ and a beleaguered rapper, now a quartet with guitarist and keyboardist — has been on the road for a long time. Its latest record, The Family Sign, takes a hard look at the itinerant musical life and comes up with a grim but resolutely honest tally of the relationships that matter, for better and for worse. Cannily enough, the Bay Area date of the Family Tour is the only one to include one of Atmosphere's most stalwart family members: Aesop Rock, fellow long-toiling denizen of the hip-hop underground and San Francisco–based artist of recent minting, who'll be playing with Bronx MC Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
