Arj Intestine

Wednesday, Aug 7 2013

Fans of the HBO show Flight of the Conchords TV show likely remember Arj Barker as friend-of-the-band Dave, teaching Jermaine and Bret about the ways of the world. In real life, Barker, who hails from the Bay Area, is a long-time standup with a wry, observational style of humor. And, uncommon to most comedians, he's a handsome fellow. Yet said handsomeness doesn't distract from his absurdist jokes. Even more fortunately, he's returning to his home turf for a string of shows at Cobb's this week. He's huge in Australia and New Zealand, big in Europe, and he's gaining a following stateside as well, having appeared on Letterman and The Tonight Show and having performed with other FOTC alums Kristen Schaal and Eugene Mirman. Barker's also known for co-creating The Marijuana-logues, an Off-Broadway parody of the vagina-related production of a similar name.

Arj Barker performs at 7:30 p.m. and also Friday at 8 and 10:15 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
