AC Slater

You'd think DJ and producer AC Slater is campaigning for a Vicks VapoRub sponsorship, the way this New Yorker (born Aaron Clevenger) brings back the sensory overload that accompanied the glorious early-'90s rave era. Plinky piano, reverb-saturated breaks, growling chords, and insatiable vocal pleas to surrender to the vigor trigger the rush as all-consuming bass hits your fight-or-flight routine. So you rush the DJ booth, fists pumping manically, needing the low-end ripple as though it's a medical-grade York Peppermint Pattie. A former happy hardcore producer and now part of the Trouble & Bass crew, Slater has learned to keep BPMs manageable, but the energy is still untamed.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
