5kinAndBone5: Show Preview

Wednesday, Jul 11 2012

Scroll past the dystopian sprawl of William Gibson's matrix and the tech-horror prophecies of Greg Egan, and you'll find the Tumblr of futuristic S.F./L.A. production duo 5kinAndBone5 (aka Charlie "Skin" McCloud and Paavo "Bones" Mosi). Spinning GIFs and virtual lolitas provide the visual component to a sound that rides the slippery void between techno, hip-hop, and bass. Once known for work with artists signed to Def Jam (a collaboration with Bernie Worrell and Fred Wesley being a noted high), the duo has since found its niche in pumping out jacked dance cuts for labels like Unknown to the Unknown, Grizzly, and Soo Wavey.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
