Half Moon Bay Brewing Company Gets Into the Election
I don't know about you, but this election is driving me to drink (although I am currently cheers'ing FiveThirtyEight's Now-cast
). Half Moon Bay Brewing
has rolled out commemorative bottles of Alection IPA
labeled in red and blue to honor Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. They'll be available as of Aug. 15, and the $12 SuperPACK includes two beers plus coasters and a ballot so you can vote for the winner. (The brewery did the same thing in 2008 and 2012, and whaddya know, Obama won both times.) So go forth, get really drunk on good beer, and argue about politics!
Humphry Slocombe Gets a Food Truck
It's named Betty, which I'm assuming doubles down on Humphry Slocombe
's reference to Are You Being Served?,
from which the hard-to-Google ice cream shop got its name. (Mrs. Slocombe's first name is Betty.) You can find it this weekend at Outside Lands.
The Dorian Decides That Wednesday Is a Pretty Good Day After All...

...And So Does Capo's
This one is whiskey-related as well: Capo's
(641 Vallejo) has spruced up Humpday with Whisky and Wing Wednesdays, in which you can get $7 BBQ bourbon wings, $10 Chicken BBQ Bourbon Pizza, $5 house whiskey shots, and $5 whiskey punch. It happens from 5-8 p.m. and it's only available at the bar or to-go. (Mmmm ... bourbon-to-go).
La Mar Cebicheria Throws a Pisco Party

Pisco Sours and Peruvian appetizers.
Flour & Co. Closes
Eater reports that Flour & Co.
(1398 University Ave., Berkeley) has shut down its cafe space after only 10 months, in an effort to save a profitable catering kitchen and the San Francisco location at 1030 Hyde Streets.
A Profile of That Sugar Plant You Always Pass by When Driving on I-80 to Vallejo
The Business Times sniffs around C&H Sugar
in Crockett, which refines 14 percent of all the cane sugar in the United States. It's had a dubious environmental history, but it's right out of the era when people worked at one plant their whole lives. I like this quote from a guy who sounds like a true industry vet: "They're a real good, solid, full line producer ... They don't just make the regular granulated sugar, they make the large-grain and the powdered sugar as well."
Plus Blue Bottle takes over a Lower Haight cafe space, Half Moon Brewery rolls out its quadrennial electoral beers, and the
