Best Bars to Watch the World Cup in S.F.

Posted By on Wed, Jun 11, 2014 at 8:00 AM

Watching the World Cup at home is all fine and dandy but why not venture out to some of San Francisco's best sports bars to root for your favorite team? When the time comes to buy the whole bar a round of drinks because your team scored the winning goal, you'll want to choose the bar wisely. Then again, there's a whole month for you to barhop.

Mad Dog in the Fog

Team: Crowd majority

Where: Lower Haight

The rundown: This all-time fan favorite is not only dedicated to all your beer needs with over 150 of them from around the world, it's also open whenever there's a game on. Whether it's a Guinness at 7 p.m. or a.m., Mad Dog's got it covered.

SOMA Street Food

Team: Crowd majority/all

The rundown: Hosted by FuncheapSF, 12 TVs will be set up at the popular food truck establishment. Foods from the competing countries will highlighted, as well as a beer garden. Don't forget to RSVP on their Facebook page.

The Phoenix

Team: Ireland and maybe other UK teams

Where: Mission

The rundown: For all things Irish, the Mission's Phoenix offers Shepard's Pie, soda bread, and Irish potato nachos. If you're not Irish, fear not. The bar also serves American classics like burgers and chicken wings.

El Farlito Bar

Team: Mexico

Where: Mission

The rundown: Rooting for Mexico and feel like you can only do so with some tacos and burritos? Head over to the bar next to El Farlito. Order your food there and head over to the bar to watch the game.

Pig & Whistle

Team: England

Where: Laurel Heights

The rundown: You'll think you're actually in an actual London pub, surrounded by fish and chips, creamy ales, and Brits (or anglophiles) alike.

Team: Probably USA

Where: SOMA

The rundown: If you're feeling like escaping the bar scene for a night or two, Jullian's got tables with private taps built into them and a 50-foot screening wall, two (probable) things you don't have at home.

Pete's Tavern

Team: USA

Where: SOMA

The rundown: Team USA fans, this is the place. With all American comfort foods, burgers, fries, the like, this bar is also the most female-friendly. The perfect place to chant "U-S-A! U-S-A!"

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
