Just because the 49ers are out of the running for the Super Bowl doesn't mean we can't indulge in a bit of competition...especially when it involves food. These two tasty contests will have your rooting for the city's winning BBQ and boozy beverages.

SF's 1st Annual Rib-Off

When: Saturday, Jan. 25, 1-6 p.m.

Where: CatHead's BBQ, 1665 Folsom

Cost: $20

The Rundown: To commemorate its second anniversary, the Folsom Street restaurant is hosting a BBQ battle, complete with music, beer from 101 North Brewing Co., and of course racks and racks of ribs. A ticket includes a sampling of the food, a beer (or non-alcoholic beverage), as well as a raffle ticket. And for those wanting to get in on the action themselves, there will be will be biscuit-eating contests throughout the evening. BBQ, beer, and biscuits? That's damn near close to perfection if you ask us. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.

Cocktail Wars San Francisco

When: Tuesday, Jan. 28, 7-10 p.m.

Where: Rendezvous Lounge, 2080 Van Ness Avenue

Cost: $10 advance/$15 at the door

The Rundown: Watch the Bay's best mixologists stir and shake their way toward gold at this "spirited" competition. The game plan? You drink, you vote, and then you drink some more. The evening promises celebrity judges and a guest emcee, and most importantly, a whole lot of booze. More information can be found on the Dishcrawl website.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
