Sometimes, even the most steadfast and resolved to avoid the hordes of Black Friday shoppers get dragged into the hot, soupy, consumerist mess. Whether you're the shopper or the one who got dragged out, it doesn't mean you can't slip away and catch a break. Here are five bars around Union Square where you can grab a drink and escape a bit of the madness.

The bar: Brasserie S&P

Opens at: 11 a.m.

The rundown: It may be a little further afield, but if your shopping takes you from Union Square to the Ferry Building, stop in one of their Black Friday specials. A selection of bites and drinks will be only $5 until 11 p.m., like glasses of sparkling wine (Sophora Brut Rosé from New Zealand and Marquis de la Tour Brut from France) along with a special Festive Gin & Tonic (Oxley Gin and housemade Pumpkin-Spice tonic).

The rundown: Along with having the most clever disguise for a coffee cocktail, MKT is open early for those poor souls who were dragged to a "door-buster" sale or, even worse, camped out. Better yet, they're offering a special Adult Hot Chocolate Flight ($20) that includes: Chocolate Chocolate (with Tempus Fugit Crème de Cacao), Black Walnut (with Kuchan Nocino liqueur), Tahitian Vanilla (with Charbay Vanilla Bean Rum), and Anise (with St. George Absinthe). If you like one in particular, you can order up any of these as a full sized drink for $14.

Opens at: 11:30 a.m.

The rundown: Right smack dab in the middle of everything is this little spot for an escape with pretty good cocktails, and very good service. Here you can rest for a bit and not be far away if your leash is short, but more importantly it's a hotel bar, which means it stays open between lunch and dinner service, making it perfect shoping escape pod.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
