Every once in a (very long) while we eschew our Sunday morning Bloody Mary or French 75 in favor of a something a little less potent. We recently gave our livers a brief reprieve and sampled three craft non-alcoholic beverages throughout the Bay Area; evidence that a drink does not have to be 40 proof to be delicious.
Cucumber, pear, and tarragon soda at Bar Tartine ($5)
This mellow-ly-sweet, herbaceous beverage has a savory note that pairs seamlessly with their potato flatbread and smørrebrød (and just about anything else on their menu for that matter).
Grapefruit and pink peppercorn soda at the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen ($3)
Champagne is usually our first choice with a gooey, cheese-laden sandwich, but like we mentioned, we are trying something new. The unfussy housemade soda is tart and refreshing, with enough pink peppercorn to keep your taste buds interested.
Ginger mint soda at Boot and Shoe Service ($5)
An absolute must-drink the morning after a long night. The deep, spiciness of fresh ginger is balanced by a touch of sugar and a healthy muddling of mint. The only problem? It's served in a conservatively-sized tumbler, and we wanted a gallon of it.
