The late-summer surf has been bringing waves of restaurant news to Pacifica. Guerrero's Taqueria, a favorite with surfers and locals alike since 1996, now has a second branch ready to open Sunday in the Fairmont Shopping Center. The menus of the two restaurants are nearly identical. Start the morning with huevos rancheros and choose from one of the numerous signature burritos at lunch or dinner, including versions stuffed with a chile relleno or topped with red and/or green chile sauce. Tacos, tostadas, nachos, quesadillas, and large dinner plates round out the choices. Don't ignore the small seafood selection, such as the camarones a la diabla (shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce). What were you doing when you were 22 years old? Most likely not creating your own small business. That's exactly what Skyline College business major Haley McKee did a few weeks ago when she began fueling Pacifica at her coffee shop The Perfect Pour. Five different coffee roasts and the usual roster of espresso drinks are on hand to warm you up from those nippy coastal breezes; smoothies and an Oreo cookie freeze will cool you off on the few days it actually feels like summer. Pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and made-to-order Belgian waffles are available in the morning, while lunch brings paninis and personal pizzas. Speaking of interesting business plans, the new American Fare, PDQ in Belmont features wholesome American sandwiches and salads all prepared "pretty darn quick" in a new twist on fast food. The concept comes from Chris Schloss, formerly chef of Cin Cin in Los Gatos, and features a long list of geographically themed sandwiches and salads all under $5. The New Haven Cheeseburger features cheddar sauce, mushrooms, grilled onions, pepper relish, and a house-made "Secret Goodness" spicy aioli. You'll find beets, oranges, herb cheese, and arugula in the Blossom Hill Salad. Chips are even made in-house, and, naturally, have never see a freezer. Having opened all across Asia, in Dubai, and even New York, the first outpost of the Taiwanese tea drink franchise ShareTea has come to San Mateo. Pearl milk teas dominate the menu, whether you want the classic tapioca or matcha red beans. There are also brewed teas, fruit teas, blended ice drinks, and even a section devoted to yakult, a probiotic dairy drink.
