La Cocina had its big annual Street Food Festival over the weekend, and Folsom between 21st and 25th was crowded with hungry folks on the warm Saturday afternoon. Every festival has a runaway success, and this one's was the ramen burger from Nombe Izakaya -- a novelty sandwich with fried ramen noodles for buns that's becoming as trendy as the cronut, and on Saturday had a line down the block.
Check out our slideshow for photos from the whole event.
Friday night was the second annual Night Market in Alemany Market, a sort of preview to the Street Food fest featuring foods from around the world. The event was crowded and the lines for food were intense, but we were very impressed by the tuna tataki from Greg Dunmore at Nojo -- it had a light ponzu dressing that perfectly complemented the fish, a subtle and delicious bite.
We also waited more than a half hour for a plate from The American South, with bites from hard-hitters like Rodney Scott (Scott's BBQ) and Drew Robinson (Jim N Nick's BBQ). They'd run out of most by the time we got up to the front of the line, but Scott's South Carolina-style pork was delicious. And everyone seemed to be enjoying the karaoke, corn hole, and mancala on hand.
Now, a week of salad and brown rice to make up for the indulgences of the past two weekends.
