Beats & Eats at Bluxome Street Winery Every Friday

Our monthly review explores the city's food trucks gatherings, one at a time, breaking down each one with statistics, descriptions of the scene, and vital info to help you plan a trip there.

Location: Bluxome St. Winery, 53 Bluxome (at 4th St)

Schedule: Varies, but Fridays 5-8 p.m. all of August

Market Info Website: Bluxome St. Winery

Approximate Number of Trucks: One or two

Parking/Public Transit: Street, but can be rough on game days. Cal Train station is a block away, so public transit is the best option.

Restrooms: One men's, one women's inside winery

Music: At least one live band a night

Booze: Glasses, flights, and bottles of wine made on site

Seating: High bar tables, communal table, and smaller tables set up throughout the tasting room and winery

Best for: Groups who like wine and looking to unwind and grab a bite, or looking to pre-game before the first pitch

Other notes: Dogs are welcome

Just because one venue has more food trucks than another doesn't make the larger venue necessarily better, just like a restaurant with a bigger menu isn't better than one with fewer choices. A prime example is the Beats & Eats gatherings at Bluxome St. Winery, a working winery a stone's throw from AT&T Park and Cal Train.

Tucked inside a warehouse across the street from the Bay Club tennis complex in SoMa is a little winery producing some excellent wines from Sonoma-sourced grapes. Each night the truck's cuisine gets a recommended pairing from tasting room staff. The winery component is what makes this truck rally spot great.

You can buy a glass ($6-$9), flight ($10-$15), or bottle ($20-$45) to accompany your meal and music. With most of the bottles in the mid-$20s to $30s range, this is fantastic place to meet up with groups to share a few bottles.

The winery also owns a vineyard in the Russian River area planted with three acres of pinot noir grapes. Not surprisingly, pinot is the focus of the winery and winemaker Web Marquez, although you'll find everything from chardonnay to syrah to gewürztraminer on the list. The style leans from light to medium body with plenty of acidity and liveliness to pair with most anything that comes off the trucks. After a long slog through the crowds of Giants fans one evening, a cool and crisp glass of the sauvignon blanc got me hungry for some tacos from Red Rooster.

Due to the uncertainty of the timing of the upcoming harvest schedule , the series will run through August then take a break until the winery work schedule settles out. That still gives you a full month of wine, music, and food trucks that include Del Popolo's pizzas, Fins on the Hoof's amazing lamb burgers, Slider Shacks fun buns, and Frozen Kuhsterd's donut sundaes.
