Why wait for your East Coast BFF or sweetie pie aunt to fly into SFO as an excuse to visit Napa Valley? Daytripping to the 707 always gives us a rare chance to drive at a mellow pace that is worlds apart from our usual Mission 'hood. Like any road trip, we savor the chance to nab free flowing "Would You Rather?" verbal spars mixed in with deeper discussions about how to achieve world peace.
Festival del Sole caught our attention as ripe for potential drive time since it is a series of events that happen to involve food and wine. The 8th annual festival happening July 12 to 21 has events with doses of culture (music/dance performances), wine, culinary, and wellness, with hearty servings of chef-driven nibbles and sips.
A food and wine event from Festival del Sole called A Taste of Napa is priced at $39 -- pretty reasonable for the Bay Area. Happening Saturday, July 13 with culinary highlights including Morimoto Napa, Ca'Momi, Gott's Roadside, Kara's Cupcakes, and a slew of wineries. 40 "local artisan food purveyors and wineries" will be there in total (insider tip: always get there early for the best eats).
The ticket price is wallet-friendly in a sweet locale: the oak studded hills of the Coombsville AVA. Event hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., which means Bay Area folks can do a little winery and related exploring before and after -- the goodies at Oxbow Market are worth the trek. Radio fans note there will also be a live broadcast of Dining Around happening at A Taste of Napa, a chance to ogle Talk 910's Joel Riddell, the host of the popular food, wine and travel program.
