The bad news is that SF Beer Week has come and gone. The good news? You're probably a lot less hungover. Wait, we still have another week of Strong Beer Month? Okay, scratch all that about fewer hangovers. The good news is that there's still gobs of delicious beer to consume throughout the city.

This week's featured beer comes from Magnolia Brewery, the Upper Haight fixture poised to open its second restaurant and brewery in the Dogpatch this year. Magnolia typically does a fine job of re-brewing old classics while introducing new creations during Strong Beer Month, and this year is no exception. We thoroughly enjoyed re-treads of brews such as Old Thunderpussy Barleywine, and the long-awaited return of McLean's Wee Heavy, but it was a new brew that caught our attention this time.
in keeping with Magnolia tradition, Quadlibet for Tenderfeet is (you guessed it) named after a Grateful Dead song. While the name conjures up threads of San Francisco history, the beer is indebted to the brewing traditions of Belgium. The rich, complex style known as a Quadrupel is the grandaddy of Belgian strong ales. Magnolia's take weighs in at 9.4 percent ABV and pours deep brown with garnet hues around the edges of the glass and a head of khaki foam. Aromas of fruity yeast, dark sugars, figs, and dates jump out of the glass. The flavor follows suit with notes of candied dark fruit and a light note of roasted coffee in the finish. This brew manages to be heavy and sweet without feeling cloying.
Head to Magnolia for a goblet of Quadlibet while supplies last. We suggest enjoying the beer with the chef's recommended pairing of Angels on Horseback, dates stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in bacon. Dates are a natural pairing for the beer, while the bacon teases out the roasty notes and the tangy goat cheese cuts the sugar. Getting in the mood to reminisce about SF Beer Week has never been so easy.
