To be in the presence of witty chef and restaurateur Hubert Keller is to be instantly charmed. This is probably why the French expatriate can operate an elegant and timeless French restaurant (Fleur De Lys) at the same time as he can hawk stunt burgers and logo-imprinted panties atop a Union Square department store (Burger Bar). His cooking series Hubert Keller: Secrets of a Chef contains such convincingly attractive demonstrations that viewers can believe they can actually reproduce his dishes.
In support of his memoir slash cookbook Souvenirs: Stories and Recipes From My Life, Keller appears for a free talk and signing tomorrow (Nov. 29) from 6-7 p.m. at Omnivore Books on Food. Accompanying him will be free wine courtesy of Smith-Madrone Winery and, most likely, his wife. So don't get any ideas, you flirt.
