The Rundown: We knew Seoul Patch can do some killer Korean fusion. Turns out Chef Eric Ehler knows a little something about bar food too. We love Seoul Patch for their fried chicken sando, but this Friday, Ehler is throwing down a whole new menu. Originally from the Midwest, Ehler modeled his menu on the bar menus he knows oh so well. "Bar menus are really random with different foods that don't have any business being on the same menu. But they are," he says.
Hence the eclectic lineup of foods like chips and salsa, shrimp scampi, and peach mochi cake that Ehler will serve on Friday. He's still making focused and delicious food, but he also wants to make it fun. This is the kind of the food Ehler wants to eat when he's having a good time.
Catering the event with a "Get Faded. Go Giants" slogan, Ehler wants you to come throw back a few and try something you've never had before -- like a char siu "French dip." Just thinking about this part-Chinese, part-all-American, part-shameless-hipster sandwich makes our mouth water. It will be served with spicy mustard, "caramelized onionzzz," and a Taiwanese beef broth for dunking, as Ehler gallops beyond his habitual Korean-American mash-up grub. Could this sandwich rival the spot his fried chicken has won in our hearts? We'll have to wait and see.
Ehler's taking no shortcuts with a Korean shrimp scampi (spicy and garlicy as f#*!) and a hamburger we have high hopes for. But don't worry; in case you were about to take this seriously, you can get a side of baloney on Wonderbread for $2.
