The Candy Store (1507 Vallejo at Polk) is one of five regional retailers selected from around the country to create limited edition products as part of the newly launched collection of goods at The Shops at Target.
There are 22 confectionery products in all in the Candy Store's corner of The Shops; they're sold online as well as in Target stores.
Gift containers display nostalgic products such as candy dots, Necco Wafers, and jaw breakers, as well as gummy items like strawberries and fried eggs, while boxes house more decadent treats like salted caramels, peanut brittle, and almond toffee. Square lollipops embedded with the Candy Store's iconic polka dots are unique.
Mostly, it's all about pretty packaging for impulse buys -- which Target is particularly good at, well, targeting. Don't take this as an excuse not to visit this shop, though. Even serious candy aficionados can't help but be impressed with its international selection of oddities and classics alike. Nowhere else in the city can one emerge with an of-the-moment dark chocolate bar studded with garlic-seasoned dry ramen noodles made in Orange County -- and penny classics your grandparents were raised on -- but here.
