New places to grab a bite: Tablehopper has the deets on two new spots. Manzoni, the family-style Italian joint is now open in Glen Park (2790 Diamond at Chenery) and tomorrow, out in the Sunset, Sheng Kee bakery will open in the former Beautifull! spot (816 Irving at 9th Ave.).
Financial District additions: Grub Street reports Hong Kee & Kim, a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant, opened about two weeks ago (91 Drumm at Sacramento). Meanwhile, Eater SF reports that Harrow, a seasonal and local-inspired lunch spot, is readying to open this month. Expect rustic dishes and a tapas menu in the evening.
As Eater SF pointed out, Mexico DF closed rather than moved, despite what a sign on the front door had promised. Now Inside Scoop discovers the restaurant replacement: Region (from the owner of Unicorn). Look for the Asian comfort food restaurant, with California influences, to open this Spring.
There can be many trials and tribulations on the road to opening (or reopening) a restaurant. LiveSOMA has continued to share the journey of MOYA Ethiopian restaurant, from the initial days after being displaced by a fire in May through the rebuilding process. And while they had hoped to reopen before the end of the year, the owners now have their sights on February.
Shutter report: Chowhounds share the news that there's one less place to grab dim sum; Chinatown's Gold Mountain has shuttered.
On the way out: After 25 years, Mo Bar will shutter on Jan. 14, as the Mandarin Oriental readies to unveil its new bar and restaurant in April.
Mission Local shared the news last week that the Summit SF is readying to leave its current space at the end of the month. While the coffee shop readies to vacate, the building's owners (I/O Ventures), will lease the space to new tenants. We will keep our eyes open to see where the Summit SF pops up next.
Last month saw the addition of a new Russian spot, and now Grub Street reveals the pending closure of a different one, Russian House. They're readying to close in the next few months, and while that may seem like a ways away, it only operates as a restaurant on Saturdays (and a banquet hall the rest of the week); so, if trying to get in one more visit -- better make a reservation soon.
Changes in the kitchen: Last week Grub Street noted Criolla Kitchen had a new menu and had seen a change in ownership, now Tablehopper shares a few details. There are two new partners joining chef-owner Randy Lewis as he takes the restaurant in a more fine tuned direction featuring his wine county influence on Southern dishes. The restaurant will soon close for a quick remodel and will reopen as the new (and improved?) Criolla Kitchen.
Also changing with the ball drop: The Academy of Science's the Moss Room quickly shuttered on Jan. 1 and cancelled all brunch reservations for the day. Inside Scoop reports the restaurant is closed until further notice, but that when it reopens chef Charles Phan will be at the helm.
