What: Benefit Party with Johnnie Walker and Whole Foods

Where: Back to the Roots

When: Fri., January 6, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Cost: Free with RSVP

The rundown: It's a new year's community celebration on Friday in Oakland, and you're invited. Johnnie Walker is sponsoring a whiskey tasting, Whole Foods is donating the eats, and Back to the Roots is giving all proceeds from their mushroom kit sales to the Whole Planet Foundation. Have you tried one of their magical mushroom kits yet? Because they're freaking magical. It's mushrooms growing out of a box. If that shit isn't magic then I don't believe in Harry Potter. Does that math work? Anyway, let's party!

Don't forget to RSVP.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
