Update: Tablehopper reports it wasn't just Kim Alter who walked out of Plate Shop -- it was the entire kitchen staff. A disagreement between the back of house employees with management, investors, and some front house employees apparently led to the departures. Still no word from Plate Shop.
That was quick. Inside Scoop reports Kim Alter is already out as executive chef of Sausalito's Plate Shop. Opened in February, Atler took an executive role for the first time, after working in the kitchens of Ubuntu, Manresa, Acquerello, and Aqua. Scoop points out a what may be a key factor in her departure: she wasn't a business partner. No word yet on the replacement or Alter's future plans.
Because who doesn't love bikes, tacos, and meatball sandwiches? As we mentioned earlier this month, the new Bites on Broadway (starting June 10) would include a peddle-powered vendor: El TacoBike. Now comes word via Inside Scoop and SFGate, that El TacoBike rolled onto Oakland streets last week. From Tamarindo co-owner Alfonso Dominguez, it's the first food-bike in Oaktown. Actually, we see three wheels, which makes it the first food-tricycle as well.
Urban Daddy and Grub Street report the return of Place Pigalle (520 Hayes at Octavia). After changing owners, the Hayes Valley bar reopened today. The beer will begin flowing at noon next week, and Charlie Hallowell of Pizzaiolo, will be debut bar bites.
The Tender reports Eleven O One (1101 Polk at Post) opened yesterday in the former Hank's Eats space. The décor is young and hip, it's open until 2 a.m., and the fare includes salads, wraps, and saucy-titled sandwiches like, "Love Affair," and "Unholy Matrimony."
Bernalwood shares a couple neighborhood items: the coffeeshop that's open at 3139 Mission, will not be ala Amsterdam. Even thought it's called Herbal Mission, the only stinky stuff they're serving is Yerba Mate. Rumor also has it that the now defunct Al's Cafe Good Food was bought by an employee who plans to reopen the diner after a few changes, including an expanded menu.
Eater SF spots a new surf and turf inspired food truck at the UN Off the Grid. Starting today, Fins on the Hoof will serve dishes in line with their motto: "Where the sea meets the barnyard."
SFoodie received word that Sur La Table, the kitchen store with more Le Creuset than you ever needed, opened Thursday at the Westfield Centre (865 Market at Powell). And last but not least, The Feast rounds up local cookbooks hitting shelves this Summer. Finally, something to serve on all that Le Creuset.
