Local Mission Eatery's Turning 1, the Irish Way

Local Mission Eatery's First Anniversary and St. Patrick's Day Dinner

Where: Local Mission Eatery, 3111 24th St. (at Folsom), 655-3422

When: Thu., Mar. 17, 5:30-10 p.m.; walk-ins only

Cost: $10 per plate of food, $2 Trumer pilsners; regular wine and beer list also available

The rundown: The acutely community-minded restaurant that Yaron Milgrom opened with Jake and Shauna Des Voignes is a year old, and how is it celebrating? Old school, with stuff your arguably Irish mom used to cook this time of year: corned beef and cabbage. Only Jake Des Voignes has corned his own briskets, ones he sourced from Lucky Dog Ranch. He's braising the cabbage, and at least some of the potatoes are from Little Organic Farm. The Irish soda bread is courtesy of Shauna Des Voignes' in-house Knead Patisserie; so are the chocolate-dipped shortbread cookies. "We're keeping it really streamlined," Jake tells SFoodie, meaning you'll order from the counter, like you do at lunch here. "We want to keep it more of a celebration." Sounds to us like a party.
