Pat yourself on the back: Your long, hard nights of liver training are about to pay off. Tomorrow, Feb. 11, you'll begin a 10-day journey of grueling beer consumption known as SF Beer Week. This is your time to shine. If you're intimidated by the 317 events on the official schedule, never fear. SFoodie will be here all week with daily previews of upcoming events.
Friday, Feb. 11:
Wake up early. Call your boss. Alert her that this "stomach bug" is probably going to last about 10 days. After your protein shake and morning stretch routine, visit the Pubquest website. There, find clues and instructions for participating in a beer-soaked scavenger hunt. From 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., follow the trail to numerous S.F. beer spots, snap photos of yourself consuming local brews, and compete for prizes. The hunt is on through Feb. 16.
Now that you've been hustling around town all day, reward yourself with some Southern hospitality:
Southern Cuisine and Beer Pairing Menu
Where: Front Porch, 65a 29th St. (at Mission), 695-7800
When: Every day of beer week, 5-10:30 p.m.
What: A four-course meal of jambalaya, crawfish pie, grillades of beef, and Creole rice beignets, each paired with a rotating selection of "strong beers." Local and global beers will be featured.
Finish your evening at Toronado , where three breweries will be pouring special nightcap beers:
Where: Toronado, 547 Haight (at Fillmore), 863-2276
When: 10 p.m.-1 a.m.
Cost: No admission; pay per drink
What: Brewers from each brewery will be on hand to mingle with adoring fans. Each brewery will be pouring 3-4 exclusive drafts.
If you've successfully completed this mission ... well then, you're probably going to be out of commission on Saturday. Take it easy champ ― this is only day one!
