James Beard Semifinalists Announced

Posted By on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 12:35 PM

The semifinalists for the 2010 James Beard Restaurant Awards were announced today, and not surprisingly, the Bay Area has shown well. Also not surprising are many of the people on the list. Of the 35 Bay Area semifinalists named, 14 are repeats from the semifinals last year (marked with an asterisk in the list below).

Given the number of stalwarts, the two categories we pay the most attention to every year are "Rising Star" (chef under the age of 30) and "Best New Restaurant." These two lists are a good barometer of how much national buzz a new place is catching. Special congratulations, therefore, to Perry Hoffman, Timothy Hollingsworth, and the staff of Addesso, Flour + Water, Frances, and RN74.

What happens next is that the ginormous panel of Beard Award judges will vote on this lists, and the finalists will then be announced March 22. Go Bay Area! Full list of Bay Area nominees after the jump:

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
