Late Friday, Kara's Cupcakes won more than just new converts to buttercream. At this year's Dwell on Design conference in LA, the cupcake queen's Marina flagship (3249 Scott at Chestnut) won a restaurant design award for best cafe/bar.

The sleek pink space is sexy in the way of jewelry stores, pretty much the perfect set-up for craving and splurging. Only the craving is for calories, not carats. Cristine LeVasser of Montalba Architects in Santa Monica told SFoodie the idea was to balance the conceptual with the playful: custom-made cabinetry and cupcake pedestals. Whatever -- if it all lets the Salted Caramel shine, we think it's fabulous.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
