We love reading Eater SF for its sleuth-like vigilance in reporting even just the barest hint of a restaurant that's thinking of opening in the Bay Area. But the site has taken its investigative skill to an impressive level this week in exposing at least two con artists that have tried to prey on local fine restaurants.
Yesterday, editor Paolo Lucchesi described a Vegas hustler trying to extort money from restaurants such as Aqua and Fifth Floor with a yarn about a greasy Gucci blouse. And just moments ago, he uncovered yet another scam, this one concerning stolen credit cards and group dining reservations. We feel safer already with such a good Neighborhood Watch on duty. —Tamara Palmer
