As much as I was hoping to avoid ever uttering the media-fabricated word "staycation," this is one event that absolutely screams STAYCATION! Thursday, July 17, Daffodil Restaurant (665 Bush at Powell in the Orchard Hotel) hosts the J. Lohr Vineyards Wine Pairing Dinner. Mr. Lawrence Lohr himself will be on hand pouring his family's award-winning Central Coast wines paired with a four-course seasonal menu by Daffodil's Executive Chef Russell Rummer, which goes like this:

Amuse Bouche: Fried Wilgenburg green tomatoes, crescenza cheese, micro basil

First: Sausalito Springs watercress, strawberries, Prosciutto di Parma (2007 J. Lohr Estates Wildflower Valdiguié)

Second: Gulf shrimp confit, Italian butter bean purée, stinging nettle froth (2006 J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Vineyard Chardonnay)

Third: Cabernet braised duck leg, morel mushroom risotto, fava beans (2005 J. Lohr Hilltop Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon)

Dessert: Buttermilk panna cotta, royal apricots, wildflower honey comb (2006 J. Lohr Late Harvest White Riesling)

Tickets run a reasonable $90 per person ($80 for the lucky J. Lohr wine club members out there). Like the commercials say: but that's not all! The Orchard Hotel is offering a special $199 room rate for wine dinner guests, which may not sound like such a great deal until you realize that they usually fetch around $300 per night. Dinner starts at 7:00. For reservations call 415-343-0130.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
