Wow, this should be a backslapping, preachin'-to-the-choir kind of good time: Mayor Gavin Newsom will sit down with Alice Waters (of Chez Panisse Restaurant and Slow Food International) for the latest edition of CitySpeaks, a series of policy talks aimed at addressing the challenges San Francisco is facing and possible solutions ... blah blah blah. You get the idea. Waters and Newsom will shoot the bull on the theme of "A Vision for Good, Sustainable, Fair Food." It should be interesting (by which I mean very crowded) and quite possibly even a teensy-weensy bit inspiring. It's happening Monday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. (doors at 6:30) in the San Francisco Main Library Koret Auditorium (30 Grove Street). RSVP to cityspeaks@sfgov.org or call 554-6279 by Thursday, May 29 to reserve a spot. Seating is limited.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
