The words San Francisco and budget-friendly aren't usually mentioned in the same sentence.

However, a new study by the folks at NerdWallet Health reveals that San Francisco is the second most affordable vacation spot in the U.S. for the health conscious after New York City. Well isn't that a pleasant surprise? Just yesterday we made a big stink when another study ranked San Francisco 19th for honeymoon destinations due mostly to our cold weather and expensive hotels. Clearly we overreacted and we'd like to take this moment to offer our sincerest apologies to Las Vegas for yesterday's unseemly behavior.

So how'd we score so high in this new study? NerdWallet Health considered the following:

  • Is the weather nice enough to spend your time outside, while avoiding harmful UV rays?
  • Is it easy to purchase fresh foods?
  • Will you be able to get around the city on foot, or will you need to rely on cars or public transportation?
  • Are hotels affordable?

San Francisco scored considerably well in all categories except, of course, for cheap hotels. No surprise there but we'll admit that it's especially sweet to finally earn a gold star for our foggy weather. It makes perfect sense though because cool weather means less exposure to sun damage. We also earned extra points for our fine selection of vegan cuisine with a special shootout to Gracias Madre in the Mission.

Naysayers might say that this list only proves that healthy living in San Francisco is exclusively affordable to those who can actually afford it. However, we'd like to believe that our runner-up position here proves that a healthy lifestyle might be accessible to everyone without having to declare bankruptcy, so long as we stay away from overpriced hotels. We'll leave that to the tourists.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
